I’m partial to say that this volume goes a bit off the rails, and in multiple directions. There is a seven (7!) page spread about Wonder Bowl and a bowler that must have some sort of familiarity to readers of this time.
We have an interview with the staff of Ace Combat 4. In addition to some coverage of the Klonoa game for the Gameboy Advance, World Stadium 5 for PSX, the PlayStation 2 port of Time Crisis II, along with PS2’s Vampire Night, and Xenosaga Episode I. We’re starting to see more and more coverage of mobile games, also.
There’s actually a really nice section covering all the employees of Namco’s arcades at this time. It’s super cool to see these people, because I was one of them! but I guess this level of Namco passion didn’t seem to fully make it to the states.
There’s nice Tekken 4 coverage (for those that liked Tekken 4), Also a very Capcom game with a very Namco logo on it, I am puzzled. There’s a Golgo 13 game I’ve never seen before here, and some other elemecha darlings like the incredible-looking Knife Master game on page 24, and some wild, wild looking games on page 26.
We see an early look at Taiko no Tatsujin! Which is still a popular franchise today.
Where Nours goes next? Nobody can ever really tell.
